"Captain", acrylic on canvas, 2019
These painting arrived just in time as beautiful inspiration for a more elaborate (for me) piece I am working on–especially the trees and structures.
The second painting inspired me greatly but in a different way… In the midst of the clear, moonlit wilderness of the sea, wisdom, sorrow, and the confrontation of oneself in the quiet have been written in the lines of this sailor’s weathered face. Beneath the surface lies an unwavering resolve of hope, revealed in the soft glimmer in his eyes. The scene communicates a quiet strength amidst hardship, and a bright hope amidst darkness.
